Pet Project was founded in 2006 shortly after its owner, Nancy-Jean Carlson, rescued a small Doberman pinscher puppy that she named Baron von Squirtenheimer, from Skid Row. At that time, there were very few businesses that sold pet supplies in the Downtown Los Angeles area and Nancy-Jean found herself at one of the major pet supply chains in Pasadena several times a month, buying food, treats, and toys. During these visits to Pasadena, she would sometimes bump into her neighbors, also shopping for their pets. It occurred to Nancy-Jean that Downtown had a real need for a pet supply store which carried high quality, competitively priced pet supplies that would deliver for free to residents and workers in Downtown Los Angeles.

Nancy-Jean set out to create Pet Project, a pet supply business with an emphasis on providing quality foods and treats, which contribute to a long and healthy life of the pet. Opening the doors to Pet Project in 2006, Nancy-Jean has watched her business grow, gaining a reputation for fairness, kindness, and a strong sense of community. An animal lover since she was a child, Nancy-Jean cares about what foods go into your pet and will work hard conducting the research for those tough questions by consulting with qualified veterinarians and vendors, and referring to trade publications. Giving back to the community is important to Nancy-Jean and she provides large food donations to several local animal shelters. She also works closely with her customers who may seek a more economical approach to feeding their pets. Pet Project is located at 545 South Main Street (Suite C), between 4th and 5th Streets in Downtown Los Angeles.
